American Idol 7 had the Top 4 singing songs from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which gives them a boatload of leeway in the way of song choices. But sometimes, being given too many options leaves you with the worst possible situation.
So let's see who sang what and how it all went down:
David Cook
Sang: Hungry Like a Wolf by Duran Duran and Baba O'Reilly (Teenage Wasteland) by The Who
When you discover that David Cook is opening the show, you expect a fantastic start to Idol. Well, guess again. His performance, compared to all the others we've seen, sucked moose balls.
But David managed to redeem himself by returning the second time around with "Baba O'Reilly" and he really did a phenomenal job. True to the David Cook trademark.
Syesha Mercado
Sang: Proud Mary by Ike & Tina Turner and A Change is Gonna Come by Sam Cooke
I have to admit that Syesha has gotten better and better with each and every show and she blew me away tonight with both performances. She is a class act by any name and I hope she stays in the running until the end, although we all know that the Monchichi is likely going to be in the Top 2. Bastard.
Jason Castro
Sang: I Shot the Sheriff by Bob Marley and Mr. Tambourine Man by Bob Dylan
Ugh! Jackass. This guy really sucks beaver tail (you love it, admit it) and if there is a god, he will be going home tomorrow night. First he turns us off with the cliche of the dreadlocked white guy singing the dreadlocked black guy's music.
Then he drives us crazy even further by forgetting the lyrics in the second song. I mean, come on, you jackass, you're in the Top freakin' 4 man! Get it together. He really gives the impression that he thinks this is a joke.
David Archuleta
Sang: Stand By Me by Ben E. King and Love Me Tender by Elvis Presley
Okay, it seems that the judges; correction - the world, and I are on two very different pages. While everyone thinks he's an amazing singer, I think that he's monotonous and panders to the camera in a way that makes me want to backhand him like a little bitch.
Both songs sounded exactly the same with different lyrics and I felt like throwing up every time he stared at me as though he was afraid his dad was going to beat him after the show. Ohhhhh, snap!
My prediction for who will be going home:
Jason Castro
